MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Vehicle Theft Unit (“VTU”) is to lower auto theft related crimes and increase public safety by concentrating efforts in deterrence by increasing prosecution for auto theft related offenses.

STRATEGIC PLAN
Vehicle Theft Unit prosecution focuses on all vehicle theft related cases including car jackings, attempted murders and murders during an auto theft and kidnapping during car jackings. The focus is on obtaining felony convictions for first-time offenders or offenders with minimal previous convictions and longer prison sentences for repeat offenders or offenders with extensive criminal history.

This plan is carried out by a multi-jurisdictional cooperation with law enforcement agencies throughout the state and constant contact with the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force (“STANCATT”). The sharing of information on auto thieves will increase the Unit's success in prosecution and increase efficient government operations by using government funding to its optimum.
