23rd Annual Candlelight Vigil (2020)

In years past, we have all come together to honor those whose lives were lost in an act of violence. Unfortunately, the year 2020 has brought with it many changes and the format for our Annual Homicide Victims' Candlelight Vigil has to change this year as well.

About Us

Who We Are

The District Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of all criminal cases filed in Stanislaus County Superior Court. As the elected District Attorney I am proud of my dedicated prosecutors, investigators and support staff who work hard every day in order to ensure that Stanislaus County is a safe place in which to live.

What We Do

Every year, the District Attorney's Office reviews thousands of law enforcement reports to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges. Those with sufficient evidence are filed as either felony or misdemeanor cases in the Superior Court. Our prosecutors appear daily in courtrooms on these cases seeing them through to disposition. The Investigations Bureau supports our prosecutors by providing additional investigation where law enforcement lacks the resources. The District Attorney investigators also will assist local law enforcement if requested during homicide investigations and other major operations. Our victim advocates help crime victims by providing court escort, filing claims for reimbursement of costs as a result of a crime, and facilitating crisis intervention and court orders for restitution.

What We Offer

The District Attorney's Office not only investigates and prosecutes criminal cases, but we also pursue justice in the areas of Child Abduction, Consumer Fraud, Environmental Crimes and Real Estate Fraud. We participate in a number of task forces including the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force, the Human Exploitation and Recovery Task Force, and the Arson Task Force. Some of our investigators are cross-designated with the FBI to investigate and prosecute local criminals at the federal level. Prosecutors, investigators and victim advocates provide outreach to schools and community groups on the many aspects of the District Attorney's Office.
